NASA Communications Services

The Communications Program provides NASA programs, missions and Centers with modern, secure, highly available, and cost effective communications and collaboration services to include WAN, LAN, DDI, Internet, Cable Plant, VoIP, web collaboration, voice and video conferencing, and telecommunications services. The Program provides a fully redundant high speed backbone network critical to both Mission and programmatic communications and recently completed an upgrade that resulted in increasing bandwidth from 1 Gbps to 10 Gbps while reducing cost. This year the program utilized the GSA Enterprise Infrastructure Services (EIS) contract to recompete its telecommunications circuits and services with anticipated additional savings. The program distributed streaming video of the recent SpaceX Demo-2 launch to a record 10,000,000 Internet video users (Facebook, etc.) across the globe. The program provides Internet access through four Internet connections and VPN remote access for NASA users to continue their work through this COVID-19 telework event. 40,000 NASA users connect through our remotes access services to conduct the business of NASA daily. The program has embraced Zero Trust for improving cyber security and has formulated projects to transform its networks and network access to access controlled, software defined, intent based networks. This is allowing the program to deploy virtualized Partner networks for secure, private communications with NASA commercial partners as NASA develops next generation spacecraft for the Artemis program.
