Investment Detail

While the Return on Investment (ROI) for a website such as ours is not easily quantified monetarily, we continue to achieve cost savings and expand our dissemination activities rapidly and cost effectively, resulting in quicker and user-friendly tools to access NAEP data, thereby therefore fostering expanded use of data as described below:
(1) Releasing the NAEP Report Card results online via web platforms has allowed us to reach a larger segment of national, state and district stakeholders cost efficiently. Conducting the releases solely via in-person events is costly and does not save time; projected cost savings average $10,000 per release event, see https://nagb.gov/newsroom/naep-releases.html;

(2) Convening virtual meetings and posting our content for quarterly Board materials via the web has reduced copying and printing costs.
(3) We develop multimedia artifacts to include infographics for engaging our stakeholders which make the results more user friendly- data are more easily accessed and understood, rather than having tables and tables of data that are hard to understand and use; The dollar value is not quantifiable. The data use by increased numbers of people visiting the website is in itself an excellent return on the investment;
(4) Our web analytics show that we continue to experience increased visitors to our site from prior fiscal years on almost all our web pages which demonstrate value on the information we were disseminating;
(5) Social media communications via Facebook and Twitter are leveraged using partner accounts to allow them to retweet or share stories, maximizing dissemination strategies; we prepare weekly, monthly and annual reports to gauge statistics on the increased sharing and retention time for our web visitors. This strategy also minimizes our internal staff time to generate efforts to share content, freeing up their time for other initiatives.
(6) Integration of video content for dissemination utilizes messaging that relate to audiences, such as building in STEM messaging by using interactive math and science content and disseminating its value to promote creativity and solve problems; the number of video plays also increases substantially each year, and by embedding them via our website instead of Youtube allows us to increase retention and follow up clicks to the rest of our web pages. Therefore the posting of web content using various strategies indeed results in an increased and valuable return on our investment.
