VS protects and improves the health, quality and marketability of the nation's animals, animal products and veterinary biologics by preventing, controlling and/or eliminating animal diseases and monitoring and promoting animal health and productivity. Within VS, the Surveillance, Preparedness and Response Services (SPRS) group is responsible for coordinating activities associated with incursions of foreign animal diseases or emergency activities. EMRS-2 is SPRS' field operations IT support application. The EMRS-2 application uses the Microsoft Dynamics Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform. Microsoft Dynamics CRM has the ability to change the entity titles, add or remove data fields and manage relationships and workflows all through the Web-based front end, with options to extend functionality through additional programming. This offers the flexibility needed to support the rapid application development environment that is needed during emergencies. Additionally, the close integration with other Microsoft products such as Exchange and the Office Suite offers opportunities to extend the capabilities of EMRS-2 to communicate and share information to internal and external stakeholders.
