FEMA - Risk Mapping, Analysis and Planning IT (Risk MAP IT)
Description
The Risk MAP (Mapping, Assessment, and Planning) program provides high quality flood maps and information, tools to better assess the risk from flooding and planning, and outreach support to communities to help them take action to reduce (or mitigate) flood risk. Risk MAP aspires to build a future where the conversation and perception about flood risk and mitigation has fundamentally changed - to where Communities and individuals intrinsically care about their risk and make decisions to protect themselves and their interest.
The Risk MAP IT program maintains the Risk Analysis Management (RAM) system (general support system), three desktop software products, and a geospatial platform (Hazards GeoPlatform) (major application) in support of the Risk MAP (non-IT) program. Data maintained and distributed by Risk MAP IT supports administration of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and FEMA Strategic Goals 1.1 and 1.2.

Investment Detail
The Risk MAP Program supports the DHS objective to strengthen nationwide preparedness and mitigation against natural disasters. The program also supports the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), where the US government has an exposure of $1.2 trillion. In sum, Risk Map better enables reduction in flood risk by addressing flood hazard data updated needs, supporting local government hazard mitigation planning, increasing public awareness of natural hazards and providing the flood risk data needed to manage NFIP financial exposure. The Risk MAP IT program has not completed a formal ROI or CBA.
