Overview

Program Title
FAAXX747: Tower Simulation System (TSS)
Description
The Tower Simulation System (TSS) program operates and maintains simulators used to train air traffic controllers. The TSS Program consists of 111 systems distributed between field facilities, the Academy, and the FAA Technical Center. Each simulator is a high fidelity, immersive visual display system that replicates ATC operations at an air traffic control tower (ATCT). The TSS uses multiple display systems that show a high-fidelity graphic representations of the airport environment, airport surface detection equipment, communications panels, and airport radar displays. Each TSS is capable of running scenarios for any airport in the National Airspace System (NAS) that has a TSS Visual Database (VDB). These simulators are used to meet the requirements for air traffic controllers in both qualification certification and refresher training. They are also used for airport sighting to identify and evaluate risks and new procedures.
