Investment Detail
The development and regular updating of a new open source Wordpress theme and plugins (Story tool) has resulted in several assets that can easily be shared with other ED offices and adapted for their specific needs. This reduces costs by significantly reducing the amount of time, money, and development required for other offices that want to update their websites. For example, the Office of Innovation and Improvement re-used our Wordpress theme template, saving approximately 50K in web development costs. Last year, we worked with the Teach to Lead team to adapt the Story tool plugin for use on their website. In addition, several other offices have expressed interest in adapting our existing assets for their use. Beyond ED, the return on investment, while indirect, is significant. Many schools and districts are overpaying for broadband connectivity by several orders of magnitude. Many invest in the wrong technology, fail to efficiently scale, or go about it in an ineffective manner. Millions of dollars are wasted on outdated professional learning practices. The guidance we provide could literally save millions of dollars and lead to much more impactful learning outcomes for students and educators.
