Description
The Electronic Grants System (EGS) is an electronic business system developed by the Office of Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) for processing and management of extramural and intramural biomedical research awards. The system integrates data and files from processes including pre-proposal review, proposal receipt, peer review and programmatic review. EGS facilitates workflows including award negotiations, management of awards, program evaluation and regulatory reviews. It allows for contractors and partner agencies to collaborate and share data as well as allow for capture of scientific research outcomes for analysis and reporting to stakeholders including Congress, MRMC and DHA. EGS interfaces with several partner agency systems to streamline data sharing. It allows for multiple users to input data, download reports and manage daily administrative tasks associated with awards processing in a central location. Electronic processes incorporated in EGS increases efficiency in awards administration and data management as well as increases data quality and security. Each year approximately 6000 new proposals are processed, an average of 4700 active grants are managed.
