WFDSS assists federal land managers with making effective strategic decisions for wildland fire incidents by providing an intuitive, map based and scalable process for analyzing and choosing an appropriate course of action. WFDSS assists fire managers and analysts in making strategic and tactical decisions for fire incidents. It has replaced the WFSA (Wildland Fire Situation Analysis), Wildland Fire Implementation Plan (WFIP), and Long-Term Implementation Plan (LTIP) processes with a single process that is easier to use, more intuitive, linear, scalable, and progressively responsive to changing fire complexity. Supports the Wildland Fire Program and federal land management programs across the federal government. The investment has been managed by the USDA Forest Service since its inception in March of 2007. The next generation of this system is planned for implementation 4/1/2025.
