CMS Payment Accuracy and Reporting (NM)

Investment ID: 009-000452048

Overview

Program Title
CMS Payment Accuracy and Reporting (NM)
Description
The Improper Payments Information Act of 2002 (IPIA), as amended, requires federal agencies to measure and report estimated improper payments for those programs deemed susceptible to significant improper payments. CMS developed the PERM program to measure Improper Payments (IPs) for the Medicaid program and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). CMS adopted a national contracting strategy to use federal contractors, the Statistical Contractor (SC), the Review Contractor (RC), and the Eligibility Review Contractor (ERC), to measure IP rates in a subset of states every year. The improper payment rate is reported to Congress each year in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Agency Financial Report (AFR).
