Investment Detail

Cloud.gov is a cloud-based platform-as-a-service, tailored for the needs of the Federal Government. Cloud.gov has been a first mover inside government on a number of modern best practices, including offering a developer-centric shared service, using open-source documentation and configuration, and taking an automated and dynamic approach to security and compliance. By leading in these areas, cloud.gov makes these practices more common and acceptable inside government, even for teams that are not direct users of cloud.gov services.

Specifically, cloud.gov will self-fund using revenue from federal agency partners. Cloud.gov currently offers a prototyping tier that can be used by agencies across projects for development and research. Cloud.gov also offers FISMA Low and Moderate tiers that correspond to the system categorization of the application deployed. Cloud.gov maintains a FedRAMP Joint Authorization Board Moderate-level authorization and provides a strong security and compliance foundation for new digital services. In FY 2022, cloud.gov operated in 23 Federal agencies and was used in 53 production systems. Cloud.gov has a renewal rate of 95 percent and maintains a growing and dedicated user-base. In FY 2023 and FY 2024, cloud.gov anticipates increased demand for cloud services and is well-positioned to expand to new offices and agencies.

The cloud.gov business unit also includes Federalist (Cloud.gov Pages), which is a modern publishing platform for Government websites. In a matter of minutes, a team can build a new website using the U.S. Web Design System. Federalist is built on cloud.gov's infrastructure and carries a built-in ATO provided by GSA. With Federalist (Cloud.gov Pages), teams can launch a new website to production in days, not months. In FY 2022, Federalist hosted over 140 production websites in 16 agencies, serving over 76 million visitors per year, 500 million requests per month, and average 17 million requests per day. Federal law now requires all new sites to be accessible and mobile-friendly; thereby driving demand for Federalist and continued growth of the platform in FY 2023 and FY 2024.
