BOPNet Telecomm consists of the necessary network equipment (such as switches, routers, firewalls and load-balancers) to support the nationwide BOP administrative network. The network infrastructure supports full core redundancy. BOPNet includes limited local area network WiFi implementations at select locations and secure WAN WiFi backup redundancy for all field sites. The Bureau of Prisons (BOP) utilizes a number of management/monitoring tools in the environment (e.g. Splunk, SolarWinds, etc.). The BOP network is designed with automatic failover to a cellular backup connection if the hard line circuit fails.The BOPNet environment supports the 24x7 operations of BOP. This network supports typical office applications, email, the BOP intranet, network storage and access to mainframe applications. The BOPNet Telecomm infrastructure is being upgraded as part of the federal government-wide conversion to the GSA EIS contract. Stakeholders are all BOP staff and external partners.
