R&D support for optical techniques. Includes basic and applied research and experiments in optical devices, systems, and phenomena, involving both field and laboratory measurements and analysis of signatures, propagation effects, devices, and sensors. Tasks encompass development and analysis of detection algorithms, sensor characteristics, and performance, as well as research on fiber optic acoustic sensors, seismic, electric and magnetic field sensors, laser sensors, chemical and biological agent sensors, explosives sensors, microwave photonics, electronic warfare, radar, communication links, multicomponent polymers, optical emitters, focal plane arrays, and quantum optics.
