Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), smartbenefits program, transportation services for government personnel. WMATA manages the smartbenefits program, which enables employers to allocate monthly commuting benefits directly to reusable and rechargeable smart trip cards for employees, and oversees the associated fare machines, databases, and bus and rail systems. The program provides access to metro commuting stations throughout the National Capital Region (NCR), manages master database functions, offers electronic auto load and reloadable capabilities for employers, and supports a fluctuating participant base.
