Government Description
Materials research and survivability studies II. This program conducts research and advances the state-of-the-art in photonic materials using unique and innovative techniques to identify, characterize, simulate structure and properties, tailor formulations and performance, and test resultant materials for improved hardness and increased survivability for aircrew members, components, sensors, structures, and systems. Key technical areas include optical technology and materials, structured optical materials and processing, non-linear electromagnetic materials and processing, photonic materials advanced development, laser component technology such as crystalline fibers and advanced laser source materials, and effects mitigation from sources such as lasers or nuclear flash effects.

Aug 2025: Azimuth Corp., Beavercreek, Ohio, has been awarded a ceiling $98,716,370 modification (P00002) to a previously awarded contract (FA8650-22-D-5406) for research and development on the Materials Research and Survivability Studies II Program. The modification brings the total cumulative face value of the contract to $196,000,000. Work will be performed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, and is expected to be completed by May 16, 2031. Fiscal 2024 research, development, test and evaluation funds in the amount of $215,002 are being obligated at time of award. The Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, is the contracting activity.
