Government Description
COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESIDENTIAL SERVICES (CERS) – TRANSITIONAL HOUSING PROVIDES EMERGENCY RESIDENTIAL SHELTER AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR HOMELESS VETERANS AS PART OF THE HEALTH CARE FOR HOMELESS VETERANS (HCHV) PROGRAM AT THE WASHINGTON DC VA MEDICAL CENTER. SERVICES INCLUDE 24/7 HOUSING AND SUPPORT FOR MALE AND FEMALE VETERANS IN NEED OF IMMEDIATE PLACEMENT IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT, WITH ONSITE SUPPORTIVE SERVICES SUCH AS MENTAL HEALTH STABILIZATION, SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER TREATMENT, INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS ENHANCEMENT, VOCATIONAL TRAINING, AND EMPLOYMENT SERVICES. THE PROGRAM FOCUSES ON RAPID STABILIZATION AND TRANSITION OF VETERANS INTO APPROPRIATE TRANSITIONAL OR PERMANENT HOUSING WITHIN 60 DAYS, NOT TO EXCEED 180 DAYS WITHOUT A PLANNED REASON FOR EXTENSION, WHILE ENSURING COMPLIANCE WITH FIRE AND SAFETY CODES AND THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT (ADA). THERAPEUTIC AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES, INCLUDING DAILY STRUCTURED GROUPS AND ACTIVITIES PROMOTING SOCIAL SKILLS AND HEALTHY LIFESTYLES, ARE ALSO PROVIDED.
