Overview
Government Description
Nx eq circulatory assist units intra-aortic balloon are devices that produce mechanical counter pulsation to reduce the afterload to the heart and increase coronary and cerebral blood flow. These units consist of an inflatable balloon catheter placed in the aorta, attached to an external unit with a pneumatic system that regulates automated inflation and deflation in synchronism with the cardiac cycle, and include monitors for physiologic parameters such as heart rate, arterial pressure, and balloon pressure and volume. The work performed includes the provision of intra-aortic balloon circulatory assist units with salient characteristics such as automatic, semiautomatic, or manual modes of operation, multiple triggering modes, event/history log capability, a maximum pump rate of 200 bpm, auto condensation removal, display with parameters (E.G., ecg, heart rate, arterial pressure), and a qrs indicator, for use by clinicians throughout VA medical centers and facilities. These devices are used to improve cardiovascular functioning during life-threatening cardiac emergencies.
