Government Description
Lake trout gillnetting and trapnetting are being conducted on yellowstone lake. The National Park Service (NPS) is contracting a professional fishing operation to remove non-native lake trout during the ice-free season, using contractor-owned boats equipped with sonar and GPS for accurate net placement. Tasks include providing boats, gear, skilled crews, handling large numbers of gill nets and fish, conducting trapnetting with experienced staff, repairing and constructing nets, collecting data on net sites and fish caught, assisting with research such as tagging and marking fish, and providing housing for personnel. These efforts aim to reduce the lake trout population and support native yellowstone cutthroat trout.
