Government Description
REACTOR RECOVERY. SUPPORTS TECHNICAL CONSULTING (NUCLEAR) SERVICES FOR THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF STANDARDS AND TECHNOLOGY (NIST) CENTER FOR NEUTRON RESEARCH (NCNR) TO ASSIST IN THE INSPECTION AND CLEANUP OF THE NBSR (NATIONAL BUREAU OF STANDARDS REACTOR) FOLLOWING CONTAMINATION OF THE PRIMARY COOLING SYSTEM WITH RADIOACTIVE PARTICULATE MATTER. INCLUDES REPLACEMENT OF REACTOR COMPONENTS SUCH AS THE FUEL TRANSFER DROPOUT CHUTE, REMOVAL OF RADIOACTIVE HOT SPOTS, INSPECTION AND DECONTAMINATION OF REACTOR AND MODERATOR STORAGE VESSELS, RADIOLOGICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT AND DISPOSAL, STRATEGIC REPLACEMENT OF PLUMBING AND PROCESS COMPONENTS, EVALUATION AND REPAIR OF HEAT EXCHANGERS, MODIFICATIONS TO THE VENTILATION SYSTEM, AND ENSURING CORRECT OPERATION OF REACTOR SYSTEMS. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE QUALITY ASSURANCE, COMPLIANCE WITH APPLICABLE CODES AND STANDARDS, EMPLOYMENT OF TECHNICALLY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL, AND COORDINATION WITH NCNR HEALTH PHYSICS TO MINIMIZE RADIOLOGICAL CONTAMINATION AND EXPOSURE USING ALARA TECHNIQUES.
