Region 1/region 4 mechanical thinning IDIQ provides mechanical tree thinning, whole tree removal, processing, decking, mastication, excavator/machine piling, stand improvement, slash treatment, leave tree protection and slash pull-back, chipping, grinding, hauling, alternative slash treatments, fireline/fuelbreak construction, roadside brushing, road decommissioning, earth barrier construction, landing cleanup, rehabilitation, stump treatment, mowing, wet mowing, harrowing, chaining, water barring, unit preparation, and other activities related to fuels treatment objectives. Work is performed primarily using heavy machinery and equipment, with some tasks requiring manual labor and hand crews for activities such as hand tree thinning, hand piling, slashing/bucking, and hand constructed fireline and fuel break. Recent task orders include thinning, whole tree removal, processing, decking, and slashing of approximately thirty-seven acres of material damaged by tree felling in the kootenai national forest, as well as mastication in the sierra front. Activities occur within the northern region (R1) and intermountain region (R4) national forests and national grasslands.
