Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Kona Historical Society Photograph Collection Digitization and Public Access Project
[The Kona Historical Society (KHS) seeks to hire a Collections Assistant to support the work of the Collections Manager; doing the work of cataloging, digitizing, housing, and storing the society's photograph collection and making the collection safely accessible to the public through online initiatives. The KHS photo collection is backlogged and in need of processing and digitizing. Hiring a Collections Assistant to focus specifically on the photo collection portion of the archives would enable KHS to move forward in making photographs accessible and searchable for the public and researchers of Kona history.]
[Purpose: The purpose of this grant is to increase capacity for a local historical society in Kona, Hawaii to archive and preserve a photograph collection that documents Hawaiian history not currently accessible to the public. Activities to be performed: This grant funds a new staff member to help catalog, digitize, and house the society's photograph collection and make the collection safely accessible to the public through online initiatives. Expected outcomes: This grant would allow the collections staff to process a backlog of photographic accessions which would enable the society to move forward in making photographs accessible and searchable for the public and researchers of Kona history. Intended beneficiaries: The project will benefit local Kona residents who engage in community research and who will be the participants in future public exhibitions. Subrecipient activities: The recipient does not intend to subaward funds.]
