Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
NEH/ACLS Pandemic Relief Awards in Social Engagement (PRAISE) will support publicly-engaged humanities initiatives across the nation suffering cuts or severe constraints due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These initiatives will address the most pressing issues of the day, including racial equity, the climate crisis, America's global relations, pandemic recovery, and strengthening democracy. The programs supported by PRAISE will directly engage the public or operate within institutions to embed public interests and engagement in humanistic teaching and research.
The purpose of PRAISE is to provide emergency relief to scholarly organizations for publicly-engaged humanities initiatives. The activities to be performed include the administration of a grantmaking program comprised of between 20-35 subawards ranging from $50,000 to $225,000. This program will support humanities organizations in developing programming that engages the public around issues of racial equity, climate change, international relations, pandemic recovery, and strengthening democracy. The expected outcome is to provide emergency relief to between 20-35 humanities organizations.
The intended beneficiaries of PRAISE are humanities organizations, especially minority-serving institutions, regional state institutions, and community colleges. Subrecipient activities will involve the development of programs that engage the public or operate within the institution to embed public interests and engagement in humanities teaching and research.
