Formula Grant

Overview

Grant Description
Application purpose: The Seattle Center Monorail has one terminus at Seattle Center within the Uptown Regional Growth Center and the other terminus at Westlake Center within the Downtown Seattle Regional Growth Center.

Transportation challenges in Uptown associated with large events at Seattle Center have been a focus of planning efforts for decades.

Large events include Folklife, Bite of Seattle, Pride Fest, Bumbershoot, Rock-n-Roll Marathon, and St. Patrick's Day Parade, with attendance of up to 60,000 per event, as well as sports and music events in the 17,000+ seat Climate Pledge Arena.

The Monorail is the only fast, efficient, grade-separated transportation option that traverses a highly congested stretch of roadway between the two centers.

This Seattle Center Monorail Station reconfiguration project will improve the Seattle Center Monorail Station to provide a fully accessible station consistent with Title II of the ADA as incorporated by Appendix A of 49 CFR Part 37 and usability by persons with disabilities, including individuals with mobility devices; incentivize public transit use; better connect it with the regional transit network; and regain surge capacity lost in previous years.

Activities performed: Review of previous feasibility study and concept development of design and implementation of designs that would improve accessibility for patrons of the legacy Seattle Center Monorail Station.

Expected outcomes: Provide equitable and streamlined access for all patrons.

Intended beneficiaries: Public transportation riders of the Seattle Monorail System.

Subrecipient activities: There are no subrecipients to this award.
