Overview

Grant Description
Application purpose: To fund a 7.0-mile Bus Rapid Transit line in Murray, Taylorsville, and West Valley Cities, Salt Lake County, Utah.

Activities performed: The project includes all items needed for the environmental design, construction, right of way acquisition, and project management of the project corridor.

Build a 7.0-mile BRT in Salt Lake County, Utah, including the construction of 1.4 miles of exclusive bus lanes on Taylorsville Expressway (4700/4500 South) between Redwood Road and 500 West.

Expected outcomes: Allow UTA to deliver improved transit service which enhances the local economy by connecting riders through the middle of Salt Lake County from the Murray Central Bus Hub and Front Runner and TRAX stations to Salt Lake Community College and to the West Valley Central TRAX Station and bus hub.

The project includes 15 branded BRT station locations (with a total of 25 platforms).

Stations with ADA access will include platforms, canopies, landscaped planters, wayfinding information, and other amenities.

All stations will be level-boarding using ramps from the sidewalk or median to the raised platform.

Improved pedestrian access with pedestrian access ramps.

Each platform will accommodate future off-board fare payment ticket vending machines (TVMs); however, the service will operate fare-free for five years; therefore, TVMs are not part of the CIG project.

TVMs will be installed at a future date.

UTA will use ten existing 40-foot electric buses to deliver the service.

The buses will be wrapped with project branding identification.

Intended beneficiaries: UTA transit service area and local area commuters.
