Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Application purpose: The purpose of building a maintenance facility for Brazos Transit District (BTD) is to provide to service, repair, and store its growing fleet of buses and paratransit vehicles.
This facility will improve fleet reliability and safety, support service expansion and future growth, ensure regulatory compliance with federal and state requirements, and increase operational efficiency.
Ultimately, it will enhance BTD's ability to deliver safe, sustainable, and dependable transit service to rural and underserved communities across its service area.
By developing a centrally located maintenance facility outside of Lufkin, TX, BTD is able to maximize efficiency of the time and distance employees travel to repair and maintain transit vehicles in order to ensure reliable and safe service for riders and the traveling public.
This new modern facility will be larger than the existing facility, with state-of-the-art equipment providing a safer working environment.
Activities performed: Brazos Transit District (BTD) will be building a new maintenance facility between Lufkin and Nacogdoches that will service and maintain a fleet of approximately 45 vehicles.
Our service area covers approximately 10 East Texas counties that will utilize this maintenance facility as their primary facility.
BTD is requesting funding to purchase a bus wash system, maintenance tools, and other vital equipment required to efficiently and effectively complete maintenance tasks and services to our fleet within our service area.
Adding a bus wash system, maintenance tools, equipment, and fuel island is required to efficiently and effectively complete maintenance tasks.
Expected outcomes: Build and maintain a facility that is more centrally located to the majority of our East Texas fleet.
A new centralized maintenance facility that incorporates sustainable features will help to fulfill maintenance requests and cut costs associated with mileage and employee travel times.
The location of the facility gives the ability of BTD vehicles to quickly get back on route and provide service to neighboring communities.
Intended beneficiaries: This maintenance facility project will be able to better connect communities throughout the very rural East Texas area that BTD serves.
With a small bus shelter/common area, this facility will serve as a rural hub for connecting transit services that are currently connecting in rural parking lots.
BTD continues to grow with our communities and service needs.
This facility, with innovative construction, can grow with our district, and we will be able to not only connect our assets more effectively and efficiently but also our residents to an ever-expanding transit service in a very rural area.
Subrecipient activities: None.
