Project Grant

Overview

Grant Description
Application purpose: The goal of this award is to transition Metro's fleet significantly reducing the organization's carbon footprint and contributing to a more sustainable future.

Activities performed: Funds will be used to procure 40 heavy-duty 40-foot CNG transit buses, construct a fueling station, upgrade a maintenance facility, and provide workforce training.

Expected outcomes: The purchasing of 40 heavy-duty CNG transit buses will provide a dependable transit option that will help decrease air pollution and alleviate traffic congestion.

The new fueling station will result in the capability to fuel up to 120 buses in under 10 minutes per bus during a fueling period of 8 - 10 hours.

This will save time and money.

Upgrading the existing maintenance facility will improve accessibility and mobility and allow for easy ingress/egress for buses to pull in once their route is completed and to proceed back to the lot for cleaning and after shift maintenance services.

Benefits of workforce training will result in improved productivity, greater job satisfaction, increased employee engagement and retention, lower employer turnover, and a better work environment.

Intended beneficiaries: Passengers will benefit from clean low-emission buses and Metro will save taxpayer dollars because of its opportunities to increase ridership due to infrastructure improvements and greater bus fuel efficiency.
