Project Grant

Overview

Grant Description
The recipient serves a growing population of approximately 200,000 people and water resources available to supply the existing and growing community in Central Arizona are limited.

The recipient currently relies heavily on imported water from the Colorado River.

The reclaimed water transmission and recovery projects (Project) addresses water supply shortages, aquifer overdraft, and environmental concerns by maximizing reclaimed water production for irrigation and positioning the recipient for future indirect potable reuse.

The recipient's water resources augmentation program is a multi-year effort to stretch existing water supplies.

The program includes the planning, design, and construction of wastewater treatment plant expansions, pump stations, reservoirs, groundwater recharge facilities, recovery wells, and transmission pipelines.

The primary goal is to produce up to 21,742 acre-feet per year (AFY) of new, Title 22-compliant reclaimed water to offset groundwater pumping and reduce reliance on imported Colorado River supplies.

The project is located in Peoria, Maricopa County, Arizona.

Work includes constructing three different reclaimed water pipeline segments (including crossing over Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land) and drilling a recovery well.

The project addresses water supply shortages, aquifer overdraft, and environmental concerns by maximizing reclaimed water production for irrigation and positioning the city for future indirect potable reuse.
