Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Permanent upgrades for the Carlsbad Desalination Intake Project includes construction of new intake and discharge facilities to allow for stand-alone operation at the Carlsbad Desalination Plant.
The project will enhance current operations and upgrade, expand, and improve the existing seawater intake system to secure a greater local reliable water supply for the region.
CDP is located on what was formally the Encina Power Station site and uses the original intake and discharge facilities that supported power generation.
The EPS was decommissioned in December 2018, which necessitated the Water Authority and ChannelSide to construct new intake and discharge facilities that allow for stand-alone operation at the CDP.
