Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
The City of Buenaventura (CITY), located in Ventura County, California, proposes to construct a 4.3 mile pipeline from the City to a connection with the Calleguas Municipal Water District (CALLEGUAS) to enable access to the City’s existing State Water Project (SWP) allocation.
CALLEGUAS will wheel the supplies to the City via its and Metropolitan Water District of Southern California’s systems.
The City presently meets its water demands exclusively through local surface and groundwater supplies, making the City vulnerable in drought.
Recent droughts have led to reductions in surface water availability, negatively impacting habitat for steelhead trout and other wildlife and declining groundwater levels.
By accessing their SWP water, approximately 5,400 acre-feet per year will be available to improve the City’s drought resiliency and will also improve water quality by blending lower quality groundwater supplies with the higher quality SWP water.
