Cooperative Agreement
Overview
Grant Description
Purpose:
The public purpose of the Trinity River Hatchery (TRH) and Junction City Wier (JCW) operations and maintenance project is to fund the annual production of approximately 5,000,000 anadromous salmon and steelhead juveniles at TRH for release into the Trinity River. These fish contribute significantly to the economic, recreational, and cultural values of the region.
TRH fish contribute to the sport and tribal fisheries of the Klamath-Trinity Basin. The TRH contributes important data to supporting the long-term health and population management of Trinity River fisheries. Additionally, the hatchery is open to the public (during business hours), which provides recreational and educational experiences.
The second intent of this project is to fund CDFW in operating JCW and performing population level assessments of Trinity River salmonids, analyzing and reporting on that data, and participating in partnerships related to Trinity River fisheries management, all of which will be completed in cooperation with Reclamation.
Activities to be performed:
There are seven primary objectives to the TRH section of this agreement. These include:
TRH Objective 1. Operate TRH to produce anadromous salmon and steelhead, consistent with mitigation goals.
TRH Objective 2. Support the marking and tagging of TRH fish production.
TRH Objective 3. Release TRH fish production to the Trinity River.
TRH Objective 4. Provide general maintenance to TRH and related appurtenances.
TRH Objective 5. Collect fisheries data, complete evaluations, and assemble an annual report on TRH operations.
TRH Objective 6. Maintain an up-to-date standard operation procedures document for TRH.
TRH Objective 7. Provide managerial, communicative, and purchasing support to meet the operational needs of TRH Objectives 1-7.
There are four primary objectives to the JCW section of this agreement. These include:
JCW Objective 1. Operate Junction City Fish Weir for run-size estimates of spring Chinook salmon.
JCW Objective 2. Operate Junction City Fish Weir for natural-origin coho salmon broodstock collection for Trinity River Hatchery.
JCW Objective 3. Provide technical assistance, project development and field-based project support for implementation of coho salmon HGMP and steelhead and Chinook salmon biological opinions.
JCW Objective 4. Annual coho salmon HGMP implementation and performance
Deliverables and expected outcomes:
TRH provide reports with required date within required timelines.
TRH CDFW shall provide Reclamation with pre-release notices prior to the release of juvenile fish. Within 30 days following each fish release, CDFW will provide release memosTRH. Within the first year of the agreement, CDFW will provide a preventive maintenance plan SOP to Reclamation. After which, an updated preventative maintenance plan is due June 30, annually.
JCW CDFW will provide bi-weekly updates for JC Weir passage during weir season. JCW provide reports with required date within required timelines
