Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Western Municipal Water District (WESTERN), located in Southern California, in partnership with the Rubidoux Community Services District and Riverside Highland Water Company, will increase local potable water supply by 4,286 acre-feet of water per year, reducing the demand on drought-stressed imported water supplies.
Over the last five years, the project area has been subject to drought-related contaminant issues in the local groundwater supply. The entities will construct three small-scale well water treatment facilities and one new well with an on-site treatment plant to treat nitrates, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, 1,2,3 trichloropropane, iron, manganese, and arsenic.
The project addresses long-term goals of increasing water reliability and local supplies, as established in Western's drought contingency plan that was developed with assistance from a WaterSmart drought contingency planning grant.
