Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
The Granger-Hunter Improvement District (GHID), in West Valley City, Utah, relies on groundwater to meet a portion of its needs, especially in times of drought and severe water cutbacks.
To diversify and expand its water portfolio, GHID will construct a new well and a water treatment facility. This facility will treat water from the new well, as well as an existing well, providing an additional 2,500 acre-feet of a drought-tolerant water supply to GHID.
The main purpose of the water treatment facility is to remove harmful contaminants such as high levels of iron, manganese, and ammonia. By implementing this project, GHID will achieve operational flexibility, water sustainability, and water quality improvements.
These improvements will greatly benefit residents in a historically disadvantaged community located in GHID's service area. The project is identified as a high priority mitigation action in the GHID Drought Contingency Plan.
