Project Grant

Overview

Grant Description
1. Purpose: To protect the beneficial uses of water in the Delta during drought periods.

During drought conditions, water stored in upstream reservoirs is insufficient to repel salinity moving upstream from the San Francisco Bay. Installation of the barrier has been shown to be an effective tool for reducing the intrusion of saltwater into the central and south Delta. The barrier would help conserve critical water supplies in upstream reservoirs for later use by avoiding the need to send large volumes of water into the Delta to repel salinity in the summer. Lowering the required Delta outflow allows greater flexibility in water allocations and operations, benefiting agricultural, municipal, industrial, and commercial users, as well as improving the management of natural habitat.

2. Activities to be performed:

- West False River in-water work for removal of rock barrier
- West False River rock barrier breached
- Complete removal of the West False River barrier
- Removal of warning signs, warning buoys, ball floats, and lights
- Removal of fencing and restoration to pre-project conditions

3. Deliverables and expected outcomes:

- Removal of rock barrier and transport to the location where rock was sourced from for installation
- Removal of warning signs, warning buoys, ball floats, and lights and transport to department facility
- Remove fencing - giant garter snake, chain link fence and gates, and restore to pre-project conditions
