Cooperative Agreement

Overview

Grant Description
Purpose: This project will increase the water supply to the Sutter National Wildlife Refuge during the late summer and early fall. The refuge provides necessary habitat for migrating waterfowl and other wetland-dependent wildlife. Additionally, the project aims to create an alternate feeding area, reducing crop damage by waterfowl on adjacent farmland. The improved habitat will also increase recreation uses by the public.

Activities to be performed include installing a lift station and accompanying fish screen on the eastside borrow canal. This will allow level 2 and incremental level 4 water to be conveyed to the Sutter National Wildlife Refuge. The California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) are also funding portions of this project. This agreement and scope of work specifically cover Task 4, which involves the construction of the lift station. The other tasks are being funded by and were covered under agreements issued to the recipient by CNRA and USFWS.

Deliverables and Expected Outcomes: The objective of this project is to develop a new water conveyance facility that will provide improved interim delivery of existing water rights. Ultimately, it aims to improve the capacity and reliability of Central Valley Project Improvement Act (CVPIA) level 2 and incremental level 4 water supply. This improvement will enhance habitat conditions for waterfowl and all other major bird groups.

Intended Beneficiary(ies): The intended beneficiaries of this project are the public, as well as waterfowl and other wetland-dependent wildlife.
