Overview
Grant Description
This program utilizes qualified nonprofit youth and veteran-serving organizations to carry out appropriate natural and cultural resource conservation, education, volunteer service and education projects on Department of the Interior lands through authorized National Park Service programs.
The Scientists in Parks (SIP) program provides opportunities for college students, recent graduates, and early career professionals to complete paid projects designed to apply the best available science, resource management principles, and interpretation techniques to natural resource stewardship needs in national parks.
The SIP program provides SIP participants with meaningful natural resource experience and mentorship to enhance their academic experience and career goals and foster lifelong connections to national parks while meeting park resource management needs and advance knowledge of natural resources in national parks.
Starting summer 2025, approximately 50 interns will complete 12 to 52-week science-based internships focused on high priority resource management and visitor education and interpretation projects in national parks.
Beneficiaries include private nonprofit institutions and organizations, public and private nonprofit academic institutions, state and local government agencies, quasipublic nonprofit institutions and organizations that support youth and young adult career training and development, and education in the areas of natural and/or cultural resource conservation and management.
Individuals, families, students, and the general public will receive a benefit from the development and execution of these programs and projects.
