Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
In the heart of Loudoun County, Virginia, a partnership between the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) aims to establish a new recreational opportunity.
The focus is on acquiring 1,154 acres adjacent to James Monroe's Oak Hill and his residence during his presidency.
Previous attempts by local non-profits to acquire the land were unsuccessful until now.
The project holds significant community importance with longstanding desires for its protection.
With initial support from the county, plans for acquisition are advancing.
A public master planning process will follow to ensure community input shapes the development of the recreation facility.
This effort addresses the growing need for outdoor recreation in Northern Virginia, where opportunities for expansive parks are limited.
The diverse landscape of the proposed site, including fields, forests, and water bodies, promises a unique visitor experience.
Connectivity to nearby natural and historic sites enhances its appeal.
Beyond recreation, the property offers educational and ecological value.
Its historical significance spans from pre-European settlement to modern times.
Restoration efforts will promote biodiversity and ecological health.
The proposed acquisition signifies a collective vision for community enrichment, historical preservation, and environmental stewardship.
It represents accessibility to nature and heritage for future generations.
