Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources Division of Parks and Recreation (NCDPR) intends to acquire approximately 758 acres of land to add to Raven Rock State Park.
This acquisition is anticipated to occur in three purchases over several years.
After acquisition, NCDPR plans to construct hiking trails on the property to expand public recreational resources at a highly visited park and help to alleviate overuse of trails and overcrowding occurring in the park.
The property is located in Fuquay Varina, which experienced a 127% increase in population between 2010 and 2022 according to census data.
Raven Rock State Park is located near several major population centers including the rapidly growing Triangle region and the city of Fayetteville.
Visitation at Raven Rock State Park has nearly doubled over the last ten years and is expected to further increase in future years resulting in greater demand for outdoor recreation and increased use of existing recreational trails.
This property provides a rare opportunity to add significant recreational resources in a fast-growing area where there are limited large tracts of land available for park development.
Acquiring this property to add to Raven Rock State Park will provide benefits to the local economy and will ensure the public will have access to the property for outdoor recreation in perpetuity.
