Project Grant

Overview

Grant Description
Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection will utilize a Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant to renovate the roadways at Hammonasset Beach State Park and Chatfield Hollow State Park.

This project will repave the main park's access roads, pave the end of the Chatfield Hollow State Park road into a turnaround area, and repair or replace drains and culverts as needed. Additionally, this project will landscape, expand the existing parking, install traffic control signage, fencing, and safety features.

Completion of this project will have a direct beneficial impact on visitor access and experience, as well as environmental benefits. The repaved roads will facilitate access to all recreational opportunities and parking areas at each park, a particular benefit for young, elderly, or infirm park visitors.

Additionally, completion of this project will improve the general aesthetic of both parks, making them safer and more visually appealing, thereby increasing visitor enjoyment and satisfaction.
