Overview
Grant Description
This grant will utilize Section 5307 Formula Capital Assistance for Suffolk County for FFY 2019 in the amount of $3,818,613 and FFY 2020 in the amount of $8,494,252. The funds will be used to purchase 22 replacement paratransit buses (and related equipment), purchase a service vehicle, and purchase 15 replacement hybrid electric transit buses (and related equipment). Additionally, this application includes funds for the capital cost of contracting. The funding split is anticipated to be 80% federal, 10% state, and 10% county.
As of July 2022, there are three private contractors which provide local public transit bus route operations, bus maintenance, dispatching, and other related services for the county. One contractor is also responsible for paratransit operations, including reservation dispatching, bus maintenance, and other related services.
The project outlined in this application can be found in the 2020-2024 State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) under project #s 082603, 082680, 082695, and 082696. This application for 5307 federal assistance is consistent with the NYMTC PFAC sub-allocation resolutions dated 5/16/19 and 4/30/20, which are attached to this application.
