Overview
Grant Description
State of Connecticut Department of Public Health Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Prevention and Control of Emerging Infectious Diseases (ELC) - The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) is applying for Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) funding to support critical core capacity for DPH programs and the State Public Health Laboratory (SPHL) so DPH can enhance state and local health capacity to overcome public health challenges with responding to new infectious disease threats.
The DPH mission statement is to protect and improve the health and safety of the people of Connecticut by assuring the conditions in which people can be healthy; preventing disease, injury, and disability; and promoting the equal enjoyment of the highest attainable standards of health, which is a human right and a priority of the state.
DPH’s Healthy Connecticut 2025, a state health assessment and health improvement plan which builds upon the Healthy Connecticut 2020 initiative (our state's version of the National Healthy People 2020 initiative) provides a framework for health promotion and disease prevention, with overarching themes of health equity and social determinants of health.
In March 2017, DPH was awarded national accreditation by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) having met the comprehensive PHAB assessment, including an evaluation of DPH’s ability to carry out the 10 essential public health services.
