Cooperative Agreement

Overview

Grant Description
RMI ELC Program - The Marshall Islands (MH) are COVID-free as of April 21, 2021. Borders are closed so testing is being done in the community through the Ministry of Health and Human Service (MOHHS). There have been no cases in schools and no community transmission.

The Public School System (PSS) covers 18 public schools and 25 private schools for grades K-12 located in the 2 urban communities (Majuro and Kwajalein Atolls) and 68 public schools and 1 private school in rural neighbor atolls which can only be reached by boat or air travel. There is a COVID response plan developed by PSS which will be enhanced under this support.

Activity 1: Since RMI has COVID-19 free status, we will continue to monitor COVID-19 in the borders and community. If/when a community transmission is identified, school testing will start. During this preparedness state, MOHHS ELC governance will implement allocation of 85% of funding to PSS.

Activity 2 - RMI ELC governance team and PSS will develop a comprehensive K-12 SARS-CoV-2 screening testing implementation plan for school year 2021-2022. School reopening playbooks are available for us to use as a reference to produce a comprehensive implementation plan. Workshops, meetings, and training will be conducted to reach all the schools (Majuro, Ebeye, and neighboring islands) for the PSS reopening of school SARS-CoV-2 implementation plan.

Activity 3: If RMI borders are still closed at the start of the school year, we will continue to make the school and partners familiar with the PSS reopening of school SARS-CoV-2 implementation plan. Once community transmission is recognized, the implementation plan will be fully executed.
