Grant Description
Nj Transit is requesting federal assistance in the amount of $470,000 of FY 2021 discretionary Tod pilot funds (discretionary ID: D2022-TODP-016). Funds will be used to conduct a comprehensive transit-oriented development (Tod) planning study for the U.S Route 9 bus rapid transit (Brt) project. Funds will be matched with transportation trust funds (Ttf) in the amount of $118,000.

Purpose:
The purpose of this project is to develop and conduct a comprehensive transit-oriented development study to produce a Tod plan for the proposed Route 9 bus rapid transit in Middlesex County and Monmouth County in New Jersey.
Activities to be performed:
Background research and program management: including a literature review of Brt Tod and data collection;
Community engagement: with a focus on Ej communities;
Corridor and station analyses: including housing and environmental assessments;
Corridor and station area Tod vision plans; and
Implementation plan: including strategies with performance measures and funding mechanisms.
Expected outcomes:
Prepare Tod plans for up to 14 proposed Brt stations along the Route 9 corridor in Middlesex and Monmouth counties.
Intended beneficiaries:
Residents of New Jersey and the public that utilize the New Brunswick train station and the Nj Transit public transportation system throughout New Jersey, New York City, Philadelphia, and surrounding states and metropolitan areas.
