Project Grant

Overview

Grant Description
Addressing COVID-19 Health Disparities Among High-Risk and Underserved Populations, Including Communities of Color, in Sacramento County.

The COVID-19 pandemic has illustrated and exacerbated the intersectional and pervasive impacts of health inequities and disparities in society, including Sacramento County (SacCounty). Deaths and illnesses related to COVID-19 are strongly associated with ethnicity, race, occupation, and socioeconomic status. SacCounty's local data reflect that the percent of COVID-19 cases remains highest among Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (NHPI), followed by Hispanic individuals. NHPI continues to have the highest COVID-19 death rates in SacCounty. COVID-19 has and continues to disproportionately affect many Sacramento County communities.

With the funding opportunity, SacCounty will be able to continue and expand our health equity efforts to ensure equitable vaccine community outreach efforts, effective community engagement, education/information around COVID-19 vaccine and testing, and overcoming cultural, socioeconomic, and political barriers that lead to vaccine hesitancy. The funds from this grant will allow us to expand and strengthen a public health infrastructure to address COVID-19-related health inequities and disparities that affect underserved and disproportionately affected communities.
