Overview
Grant Description
Louisiana's Initiative to Address COVID-19 Health Disparities
Louisiana is a state known for its cultural diversity and unique tourist attractions. For years, the state has served as home to multiple large and small community festivals stretching across all corners of the state. Historically, however, Louisiana is also known for being frequently ranked last in annual state health outcomes. The state faces continual struggles with improving outcomes in education, incarceration, as well as health. This funding opportunity serves as a unique opportunity to focus on the diversity present throughout the state in an effort to improve health outcomes for those diverse populations in both rural and urban settings.
The Louisiana Office of Public Health-Bureau of Community Preparedness employs a three-pronged process in serving the agency's mission of improving health outcomes through prevention, preparedness through education, and sustainable action. Louisiana has identified five strategies through which it can meet the intended outcomes of the national initiative to address COVID-19 health disparities among populations at high-risk and underserved, including racial and ethnic minority populations and rural communities. The outcomes include:
1. Reducing COVID-19 related health disparities within the state of Louisiana.
2. Improving and increasing testing and contact tracing among high-risk populations.
3. Improving capacity and services to prevent and control COVID-19 infection (or transmission).
For each strategy, Louisiana has developed a robust work plan, inclusive of several activities designed to support endeavors to meet the expected outcomes. Below are the strategies associated with this initiative. In addition, Louisiana has identified a comprehensive group of traditional and non-traditional partners crossing multiple industries and jurisdictions to meet these goals.
