Project Grant

Overview

Grant Description
Application purpose: The purpose of this award is to purchase battery electric buses to replace diesel and hybrid buses that have reached the end of their useful life.

Activities performed: Activities to be performed include the procurement of battery electric buses and workforce development and training activities for the battery electric buses.

Expected outcomes: Expected outcome includes the replacement of diesel and hybrid buses with BEB to improve the reliability of Godurham bus service for riders and modernize the transit system by having almost 20% of the fleet as electric buses.

BEB produce zero harmful emissions.

In contrast, diesel transit vehicles produce harmful emissions; including varying ranges of nitrogen oxide (NOX), methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrocarbon (HC), particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5), and black carbon (BC).

BEB will reduce harmful emissions that will reduce local air pollution by eliminating all dangerous particulate emissions.

Utilizing the BEB on two of Godurham's highest ridership routes will also provide the greatest opportunity to reduce Godurham carbon emissions footprint and provide the opportunity to create clean transit corridors.

These clean transit corridors would provide reduced emissions to the communities along that route, creating a healthier environment for communities that have historically been disproportionately impacted by harmful emissions.

Intended beneficiaries: BEB will benefit transit riders and the surrounding communities in the Godurham service area and along its bus routes through the reduction of exposure to harmful transportation-related emissions.

Subrecipient activities: None.
