Cooperative Agreement

Overview

Grant Description
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is providing $6,000,000 in federal funding to the Texas General Land Office through the FY2024 and FY2025 Coastal Zone Management Habitat Protection and Restoration Grant Competition.

This funding will increase the safety and productivity of coastal communities within coastal counties through habitat restoration planning, engineering and design projects, habitat restoration implementation projects, and land conservation projects.

Specifically, the Texas General Land Office, in partnership with the Galveston Independent School District and 501(c)(3) organization Artist Boat, will use these funds to acquire three land tracts, totaling ~164 acres on West Galveston Island, Texas.

Encompassing critically imperiled coastal prairie, freshwater wetlands, estuarine sloughs, and marsh adjacent to West Galveston Bay, these properties will be added to the existing Coastal Heritage Preserve (CHP) upon conveyance to Galveston ISD.

The property will be managed, monitored, and stewarded by Artist Boat for the purposes of coastal conservation and passive public access in perpetuity.
