Project Grant

Overview

Grant Description
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is providing $963,000 in federal funding to the Town of East Greenwich in Greenwich, Rhode Island for a project titled East Greenwich Rhode Island Waterfront Development Plan.

Specifically, the Town of East Greenwich will use these funds to work with a multidisciplinary consultant team (TBD) to design, permit, and oversee construction of an interconnected shared-use pathway within Scalloptown Park and a waterfront greenway near Barbara M. Tufts Playground.

Construction will be completed by a construction contractor (TBD) for the shared-use pathway and waterfront greenway.

Construction will include building a composting restroom, benches, shade structures, parking areas, signage for viewing areas, removal of invasive plant species, and installation of native plant species.

The consultant team will also conduct a public right-of-way feasibility study on the possibility of removing an existing municipal transfer station adjacent to the Scalloptown Park shoreline and explore design options for future public access.

The Town of East Greenwich will be working with Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council and the local NOAA OCM office to ensure the final site design for the shared-use pathway and waterfront greenway are in full compliance with regulatory requirements.
