Cooperative Agreement

Overview

Grant Description
The North Pacific Fishery Management Council supports a range of administration and management activities.

The majority of the proposed budget is allocated to baseline operational expenses associated with the preparation for and conduct of Council and committee meetings (staff salaries and benefits, the operational and travel costs associated with meetings, miscellaneous administrative costs, and basic maintenance of fishery management plans).

Through the Council process, federal regulations implemented under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, and for the halibut fisheries off Alaska, are continuously reviewed and revised to reflect current conservation and management needs.

Award-funded activities fit into the following seven categories:

1. Limited access privilege programs or catch share programs,
2. Optimizing economic value of fisheries while ensuring their sustainability,
3. Bycatch reduction,
4. Ecosystem approaches to management,
5. Essential fish habitat,
6. Outreach and education,
7. Coordination across multiple jurisdictions.
