Grant Description
Purpose
New York Sea Grant (NYSG) is a university-based federal-state partnership program of the State University of New York (SUNY), Cornell University, and NOAA.
For 50+ years, it has supported NYS coastal communities, economies, and environments.
The purpose of NYSGs 2024-2027 omnibus application is to provide science-based info, tools, student opportunities, and outreach to manage coastal resources, improve resilience, and enhance knowledge and appreciation of NYS coastal resources.

Activities to be performed to fulfill the purpose of this omnibus application, NYSG proposes a number of activities detailed in the different sections of the proposal.
Activities planned include conducting two research competitions for 2024-25 and 2026-27 to administer the conduct of supported research projects and the extension of the results to diverse audiences in New York.
Further activities include extension and communication projects that inform and educate audiences in New York about NYSG activities, research results, and topics related to coastal issues facing New York communities.

Other activities include providing education, training, and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students involved in funded research projects and educational opportunities through fellowships and internships.

Expected Outcomes
The expected outcomes from this omnibus proposal are conducting several new research projects that produce new or updated scientific tools and knowledge that advance the state of the art for NY audiences.
Additional outcomes are the conduct of many extension and outreach projects and products that will translate and interpret the results from funded research and other sources to diverse NY audiences.
Other outcomes include the training, education, and mentorship of NY students through fellowship and internship programs.

Additional expected outcomes are the production of a variety of informational materials and resources such as fact sheets, guides, web and newsletter articles, and videos to inform New Yorkers about Sea Grant activities.

Intended Beneficiaries
The intended beneficiaries of this project are in general the people and coastal communities of NY State and throughout the Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeastern regions.
Specifically, the intended beneficiaries include state and local resource managers, researchers, educators, students, local and regional NGOs, businesses, industries, community groups, research institutions, town, city, county, and state governments and agencies.
NYSG will continue to work with partners to develop and provide innovative, leading-edge research, extension, education, and outreach with a firm commitment to a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and just workplace as well as research, education, and extension programming that meets the needs of all of NYSGs stakeholders.

Subrecipient Activities
The subrecipient activities are detailed in the separate proposals that comprise this omnibus application.
Research subrecipients will conduct research projects in accordance with the objectives in their proposals and will submit reports on their progress and results upon their completion.
Subrecipient activities of the students in the Coastal Resilience Law and Policy Program and the Community Engaged Fellowships will be determined when the projects for those programs are chosen in early 2024.
Funding Goals
TO SUPPORT THE ESTABLISHMENT AND OPERATION OF MAJOR UNIVERSITY CENTERS FOR MARINE RESOURCES RESEARCH, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING AND TO SUPPORT MARINE ADVISORY SERVICES. SOME INDIVIDUAL EFFORTS IN THESE SAME AREAS ALSO RECEIVE FUNDING.
