Cooperative Agreement
Overview
Grant Description
Purpose: The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is providing $4,851,805 in federal funding to the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development Coastal Management Program through the FY2023 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Coastal Zone Management Habitat Restoration and Conservation Competition.
This project will be fully supported through funding available under the Inflation Reduction Act.
This funding will increase climate resilience of coastal communities within coastal counties through habitat restoration planning, engineering and design projects, habitat restoration implementation projects, and land conservation projects.
Specifically, the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development Coastal Management Program will use these funds for the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians to acquire a 42-acre beachfront property currently threatened by development.
This property is located in an area of historic tribal villages and settlements within the tribes original reservation.
It has a healthy, diverse community of native plants, and features creeks that converge to form wetlands before continuing on to the Pacific Ocean.
The goal is to purchase and manage this property in perpetuity, primarily for its habitat, cultural, and climate resilience values, as well as for tribal resource access and passive recreation for the tribe and the public.
Protection of this property—one of the last great pieces of undeveloped oceanfront in the region—is a critical, urgent priority for meeting Oregon's coastal resiliency and conservation goals.
