Cooperative Agreement

Overview

Grant Description
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is providing ongoing funding through the National Coastal Zone Management Program to the state of Louisiana to help administer the state's federally approved coastal management program.

The National Coastal Zone Management Program, under the Coastal Zone Management Act, is an important voluntary federal-state partnership that protects, restores, and responsibly develops our nation's coastal communities and resources by balancing economic development, coastal uses, and natural resource protection.

NOAA's investment of over $6,400,000 is leveraging over $5,500,000 in state funds.

These funds will support jobs and provide continued assistance to the Louisiana Coastal Management Program to address many important coastal issues in the state including working waterfronts, coastal use permitting, and beneficial use of dredge material planning.

For example, one project will continue the development of permitting improvements that will streamline coastal use permitting processes and provide support to coastal residents that are interested in development in the coastal zone.

The funding also supports ongoing coastal permitting and enforcement to ensure a balanced use of resources in the Louisiana coastal zone.

The award also is supporting an initiative focused on coastal marinas to support their participation in the Clean and Resilient Marina Program, which will support small improvements at local marinas to ensure they are more resilient to storms and other coastal hazards.
